Personalized Learning Model description

Description
Percent ALT on Automated Pedagogies:
In my 8th grade class, my students will spend 40% of the instructional time on automated pedagogy in the classroom. I am the general education Science teacher with students that identified with a 504 Plan or Gifted Identified, so the needs and levels of my students fall on a wide range. My students have access to student laptops, and I use this technology to deliver new content or provide additional learning and practice to students who are working through individualized pathways.
Types of Automated Pedagogies:
Each of my students have access to Microsoft Suite and the learning management system (itslearning). However, this learning management system will no longer be continued in my district after the 2021 – 2022 academic year. However, students have access Microsoft OneNote and Microsoft Teams which I primarily use to provide instructional activities and resources that students can access through the platforms. All groups have access to the same resources through the single sign on tool (Classlink).
Percent ALT on Student-Centered Pedagogies:
I estimate that my 8th graders will spend about 60% of the instructional time on the student-centered pedagogy in my classroom. I teach science and I provide my students with multiple opportunities to practice inquiry-based assignments to support student-centered pedagogies.
Types of Student-Centered Pedagogies:
For my students, I plan use several types of student-centered pedagogies. First, collaborative learning will be used in the beginning of incorporating personalized learning. Students will collaborate with each other to begin to understand what personalized learning entails. They will use the LMS (itslearning) daily for access to online resources and tools. Student can collaborate within the platform as well as provide feedback and assessment.
Power and Agency:
Personalized learning will be new to my students and myself, so I will start by making most decisions on what the model will look like in my classroom. Once implementation is in full effect and students have accommodated to the model of personalized learning, I will begin to allow autonomy amongst how their learning will look. I plan for my students to be able to cultivate their own artifact and products that show their mastery based off what the standards or objectives are requiring.
Other defining features:
In our district, because students have been given devices of their own, teachers have been learning to use Nearpod in addition to itslearning. Using this program, students can work in large groups with the teacher, small teams, and individually to master a skill or standard.
